Is Your Laptop Too Slow?

Is Your Laptop Taking Too Long to Start?

Your laptop has a few moving parts in it and so it will eventually start developing problems. Usually the first sign of trouble is the sound of constantly running fan and the length of time it takes to start up (Boot Up).  Laptops generally don’t last as long as desktop computers and after a few years (about five) it’s not uncommon for it to start playing up. The most common reason a laptop needs to be repaired is because the Hard Drive that stores all the data is wearing out.  This is in part due to normal wear and tear but also because a laptop is typically moved around a lot and that creates more wear and tear that happens faster than in a desktop PC.

How Do We Repair Your Laptop?

At Need a Nerd Lower Hutt we swap out the old hard drive and replace it with a Solid State Drive.  This sort of laptop repair will make your computer faster than the day you bought it and extend its life for another few years.  Also, because the new drive has no moving parts, there is no heat build up and the constant whirring of the fan will stop.

As with a desktop PC we clone all the data, software and files across to the new Solid State so that it will look exactly as it did before – everything will be where you remember it. The difference is that it’s now running much, much faster and instead of taking minutes, your repaired computer will start up in a few seconds.

To minimise disruption to you, we take your laptop away late in the day, repair it overnight and return it you the next day.  We do all this for you at a fixed price of $350.
